UF officially bans Beer Pong

In Beirut they call it Dallas

I know a lot of key rats have attended or attend the University of Florida, so this should come off as practical news for said rats: UF has officially banned beer pong. This doesn’t mean much to all those students who live off campus and seldomly partake in official school activities, but for those that do, it could be a disaster. If you get caught by the school playing any drinking games, you could be subject to disciplinary action, even if you’re twenty-one and live off campus.

As my friend Melissa so well puts it (she also pointed me to the article):

Let’s say I host an event for a student organization I’m in, and by student code I’m allowed to have it at a place that serves alcohol, but someone starts playing a “drinking game”. If anyone were to say something about it to someone in an administrative position I could be expelled. I know it sounds out there and maybe even paranoid, but shit like that happens all the time within UF organizations, sororities, fraternities, political systems – even sometimes to students who write for any of UF’s publications. All of these people (a large percentage of students) could be held accountable for these actions by a simple photo on Facebook showing them near a beer pong table. I don’t know, it just makes me worried for UF students who are 21, legal and living in a consumer based economy where they should be able to buy whatever they want as long as it’s legal. I mean next thing you know the local Sports Authority announced it stopped selling ping-pong balls! (Joke).

This all comes on the heels of the Princeton Review naming UF the number one party school in the country. I have to say that if UF is number one, I feel sorry for the kind of parties going on elsewhere.
