Columbus Day Regatta this Weekend
October 9, 2008 | Posted by: Rafa | Filed In: Beer, Columbus Regatta, Drunk, Party
You know it’s coming but I should say something anyway. People seem pretty pumped considering it hasn’t been that great the past couple of years. Hopefully this rain won’t haunt the bay on Saturday.
So are you going or skipping it? How about this Mashta flat alternate party I keep hearing about?
World record flip cup?
September 3, 2008 | Posted by: Rafa | Filed In: Beer, Florida, football
(this is not the world record)
So I’ve heard some talk about a world record flip cup game being played up in Gainesville for the UM vs UF game this weekend. The way it was going to work, it was going to be a huge game played at the 112. Something like 10 tables were mentioned.
Now, though, I’ve been hearing that people are getting a little lazy. They don’t think it can be done. They think that a party like the one that’s going down this weekend will be good enough with a regular beer pong game.
I don’t think so, but that’s only one man’s opinion.
UF officially bans Beer Pong
August 15, 2008 | Posted by: Rafa | Filed In: Beer, Drunk, Florida, Party
I know a lot of key rats have attended or attend the University of Florida, so this should come off as practical news for said rats: UF has officially banned beer pong. This doesn’t mean much to all those students who live off campus and seldomly partake in official school activities, but for those that do, it could be a disaster. If you get caught by the school playing any drinking games, you could be subject to disciplinary action, even if you’re twenty-one and live off campus.
As my friend Melissa so well puts it (she also pointed me to the article):
Let’s say I host an event for a student organization I’m in, and by student code I’m allowed to have it at a place that serves alcohol, but someone starts playing a “drinking game”. If anyone were to say something about it to someone in an administrative position I could be expelled. I know it sounds out there and maybe even paranoid, but shit like that happens all the time within UF organizations, sororities, fraternities, political systems – even sometimes to students who write for any of UF’s publications. All of these people (a large percentage of students) could be held accountable for these actions by a simple photo on Facebook showing them near a beer pong table. I don’t know, it just makes me worried for UF students who are 21, legal and living in a consumer based economy where they should be able to buy whatever they want as long as it’s legal. I mean next thing you know the local Sports Authority announced it stopped selling ping-pong balls! (Joke).
This all comes on the heels of the Princeton Review naming UF the number one party school in the country. I have to say that if UF is number one, I feel sorry for the kind of parties going on elsewhere.
Happy 4th of July!

Well, it’s not technically the fourth yet, but I definitely won’t be tending to the site when it is. So have fun on the 4th. Parade starts at 11:00am. Festivities go on all day afterward.
Party in the ‘ville

This is it. It might be the last time it happens. You’ve heard about these parties for a while, but you’ve never been. Well now is your chance. As expected, 10 kegs and a DJ. I can’t say exactly how many people, but it’s a huge amount. Here’s a picture:
The whole thing goes down this Friday, the 4th. The drive isn’t that bad so why don’t you make your way up. Get a book on tape if you need it. Here’s a map. Need more proof? Hit the jump to watch the most epic party video I’ve ever filmed.

Not the best example, but here is how you do a team pitcher chug.
The key’s hidden beach bar
March 18, 2008 | Posted by: Rafa | Filed In: Beer, Plug, the Key
You may not have heard, but recently a little beach bar opened on Key Biscayne. It’s not technically on the beach, but you can see the ocean and even hear it (between the reggae songs). And it’s not technically public, but it’s not too hard to get in.
The place is Las Olas, at Key Colony, and it’s the only beach bar on the key where you can get a cold beer for three bucks. They’ve got all sorts of stuff to eat also, from empanadas and paninis to ceviche and paella. The little down-low watering hole actually opened two weeks ago, and is run by my friend and key rat Lawrence Kelly. It has a great little vibe and is worth checking out Friday afternoons for happy hour. Hours of operation are whenever there’s sun out, so don’t bother going on a rainy day.
Please don't take it, don't copy it, don't use it for profit. tips@ratradio.net | Entries and comments feeds.
