RafaGulliver Prep’s Unorthodox Sex Ed

The coach is missing 'cause he's having sex with a student

(The coach is missing 'cause he's having sex with a student)

For the second time in a month’s time, a coach associated with Gulliver Preparatory School has been accused of having sex with a student. Last month it was former NBA player Vincent Askew who, to Gulliver’s credit, was applying for a job at the time. This time it’s coach Ronald Butler, a football coach, who is accused of having sex with a 17 year old student.

I hate to get all Nancy Grace over here, because I hate that bitch, but what the hell is going on? Normally I’d see this as isolated but I know for a fact that when my friends all went to Gulliver in the 2000s there was a soccer coach there that would also have sex with girls; more than one. He never got caught.

What kind of environment is this school fostering, or are these parents fostering, where their daughters are being so damn callous with their promiscuity? I remember the days when whores would whore it up with their fellow peers, not with the administration. You’d think after repeated incidents and the press exposure they’d maybe sit all the frisky girls down and give them a talk about it. As for the girls, they need to think about their fellow peers; little Gulliver guys will never get laid if this trend continues.

RafaGuy arrested for pirate radio

September 10, 2008 | Posted by: Rafa | Filed In: Broward, Radio
Pirates of the Carribairwaves

A 23 year old guy in Wilton Manors (Broward) was arrested last night for running a pirate radio station. His whole operation was running out of the 10th story of an apartment building, on 103.9FM, under the name DJ Kosta.

How did he get caught? Not because the FCC found him, but because his radio station was interfering with another station in Palm Beach. The station called the police to complain, and they roped him. It’s strange that the police would do the arresting, considering it’s not their business. One commenter on the Miami Herald site goes on to say that it will probably be tossed out of court for just that reason, but I’m no lawyer. Just goes to show that if you ever plan on doing something like this you should make sure that you don’t broadcast too close to any other stations.

RafaFacebook online friends when you’re offline

September 9, 2008 | Posted by: Rafa | Filed In: (Anti)Social networking, Tips

Admittedly, this has little to do with Rat Radio, the Key, Miami, or anything else, but I figured this is something that most readers of this site would appreciate, considering so many use Facebook (so many, in fact, that they all stopped reading this). I also wanted to tell people because I thought it was interesting.

Facebook

This little trick will let you log out of the Facebook chat while still being able to see who is online. Sometimes you just want to see if someone you want to talk to is there, but you don’t want to be available to everyone. Or maybe, as I suppose will be more common, you can see who is wasting time on Facebook without them seeing you. That said, now that I’m revealing this I suppose more people will be offline more often.

UM vs UF vs the Keyrats

This weekend, in Gainesville, there’s some exciting stuff going down. First and foremost, UM will be playing UF. Because of the occasion, hundreds of Miami fans are coming up to watch the game and to party or sulk, depending on the outcome.

The Keyrats, seeing as so many of their fans will be about, will be playing not once but twice during the weekend. Here it is straight from the source:

SATURDAY DAYTIME - Orange & Blue Bloc Party @ Links

RafaWorld record flip cup?

September 3, 2008 | Posted by: Rafa | Filed In: Beer, Florida, football

(this is not the world record)

So I’ve heard some talk about a world record flip cup game being played up in Gainesville for the UM vs UF game this weekend. The way it was going to work, it was going to be a huge game played at the 112. Something like 10 tables were mentioned.

Now, though, I’ve been hearing that people are getting a little lazy. They don’t think it can be done. They think that a party like the one that’s going down this weekend will be good enough with a regular beer pong game.

I don’t think so, but that’s only one man’s opinion.

RafaMore Keyrats shows this weekend

August 27, 2008 | Posted by: Rafa | Filed In: Keyrats, Music, The Grove

I remember a time when Keyrats shows were few and far between; not anymore (which is great, btw). This weekend they’re tearing it up again. First at Cefalo’s on Friday night, then at the Boardwalk Tavern on Saturday night. I think these Keyrats shows might be the only reason to even go out to the Grove anymore.

RafaToners Tonight at Flavour

August 26, 2008 | Posted by: Rafa | Filed In: Music, The Grove

I’m late to the party again with this one, but if you want something uniquely interesting to do tonight I suggest you get to Flavour at around 9pm. The Toners, a mock reggaeton group spearheaded by my friend Alex Hernandez Fumero, will be performing live there tonight. I can’t make it, but I bet there will be something to make you laugh going on over there.

Then, just in case you’re busy during the day, at night the Keyrats will be playing at Dolce in Miami Beach. The place is located at 15th and Ocean Drive, so come check it out.

RafaKey Rat Stickers in copyright mess

August 19, 2008 | Posted by: Rafa | Filed In: the Key
The sticker in question.

My friend Mauro, proprietor of Elemental “Product Spot” in the Gables, is a little frustrated right now. He’s created various Key Biscayne themed designs for shirts and stickers, all of which are highly original and creative. Now he’s come to find out that someone has copied one of his designs and has been distributing stickers.

The details are scarce. Have the stickers been sold? No one can be sure. The thing about copyright, though, is that it doesn’t matter if they’ve been sold or not. Fair use limits a person, in this case, to reproduce the design for personal use; making your own sticker or a poster is fine. The line is crossed when things are distributed, even for free.

If you have any info as to any of this, post a comment or drop a line.

RafaUF officially bans Beer Pong

August 15, 2008 | Posted by: Rafa | Filed In: Beer, Drunk, Florida, Party
In Beirut they call it Dallas

I know a lot of key rats have attended or attend the University of Florida, so this should come off as practical news for said rats: UF has officially banned beer pong. This doesn’t mean much to all those students who live off campus and seldomly partake in official school activities, but for those that do, it could be a disaster. If you get caught by the school playing any drinking games, you could be subject to disciplinary action, even if you’re twenty-one and live off campus.

As my friend Melissa so well puts it (she also pointed me to the article):

Let’s say I host an event for a student organization I’m in, and by student code I’m allowed to have it at a place that serves alcohol, but someone starts playing a “drinking game”. If anyone were to say something about it to someone in an administrative position I could be expelled. I know it sounds out there and maybe even paranoid, but shit like that happens all the time within UF organizations, sororities, fraternities, political systems – even sometimes to students who write for any of UF’s publications. All of these people (a large percentage of students) could be held accountable for these actions by a simple photo on Facebook showing them near a beer pong table. I don’t know, it just makes me worried for UF students who are 21, legal and living in a consumer based economy where they should be able to buy whatever they want as long as it’s legal. I mean next thing you know the local Sports Authority announced it stopped selling ping-pong balls! (Joke).

This all comes on the heels of the Princeton Review naming UF the number one party school in the country. I have to say that if UF is number one, I feel sorry for the kind of parties going on elsewhere.
