KB Regatta around the corner

First, the KB Regatta commercial:

Second thing is that on Friday, March 14th the Keyrats will be playing a show to welcome the regatta at BED on the beach. You can get more info here.

With the regatta just around the corner, I figured I’d lay out some pointers to maximize good, clean fun.

• Bring a towel.
• Be safe. I can’t stress this enough. Last year some little posers had a fake regatta in the same spot as this one, and a kid drowned. Accidents can be avoided, so be safe. Not only is it a total bummer, but there’s also the heat…which leads to the next point.
• The authorities will probably be out there before you are; I’m pretty sure they know about the KB Regatta this year. Make sure the captain on your boat is alert and be sure to bring enough lifejackets.
• Bring food.
• DON’T POLLUTE.

Now that I think about it, I can’t imagine the guy that’s stupid enough to cause an accident, but smart enough to read this list, so try and spread the word to your friends with fewer braincells.

Why you should comment

The site has just got back on its feet, and while everything isn’t moving at 100% speed, there is a certain thing that you, as a reader, can do to make it that much more interesting. You should try commenting.

When you comment, regardless of what you say, it makes the site a little more compelling. People who read the stories can see what others, like yourself, have to say. Or maybe you don’t want to comment on the story, but you want to call attention to something else. That’s fine too. The best part about commenting, though, is that the next time you visit the site, you can look forward to a reply to your comment (as long as it’s opinionated enough to solicit a response).

Another great aspect about the comments is that all new comments are posted on the sidebar right on every page, so people can see just what everyone is talking about, and maybe garner some more comments.

Bottom line, you have something to say, so just say it. Make up a little internet name, like Mandingo or something, and just use it every time. There’s no need to register, just put your name and an email (it can even be a fake email! it won’t ever be shown), and write what’s on your mind.

Keyrats Live! Regatta Kicker!

Ever year that the Key Biscayne Regatta has taken place, the Keyrats have rocked a packed show to go along with it. This year the show is going to be at BED on Friday, March 14th. The whole thing starts around 10:30pm. After the last show at BED I think I ended up on the side of the road on the Rickenbacker causeway at 5am, if that’s any indication of how crazy it was.

Just listen to this and tell me how it’s not going to be awesome.

Miami International Film Festival

In case you wanted to get your fill of artsy-fartsy movies and pretentious shorts this week, the Miami International Film Festival is here to satisfy your needs. I really haven’t heard much about what’s playing, but judging by these summaries from the Herald, I think we’ve got some real Oscar contenders.

The Pope’s Toilet: Uruguayan film based on a true story about a small-time smuggler who hopes to get rich by cashing in on pilgrims who visit the Pope.

This one just has a great title. You think there’s holy water in the pope’s toilet?

Very Young Girls: Film examines the underage sex trade in New York City

I can only imagine what kind of fluids people would be in that theater.

Kimbo Slice says Opium Sucks

This is about a week and a half late, but Kimbo Slice, the Youtube celebrity and MMA fighter, came out on Dan Le Batard’s  show to talk about the fight (he beat Tank Abbot last week here in South Florida), and midway through the interview he rails on Opium for doing “a shitty job.” He says they messed up the bottles, and that he’s boycotting Opium. All this after giving Opium a national plug after winning the fight.

My best guess is that whoever was tending to him probably didn’t know who he was, and subsequently didn’t care about the service. I think I’d be kind of scared to mess up this guy’s order.

You can listen to the interview here; it’s actually fairly entertaining. Skip to the middle for the Opium talk. I have to say that for a guy that’s made a carreer out of backyard Youtube fights, he seems to be a level headed guy and speaks much better than I expected.

Yea…it’s back

So about that “never coming back” thing. Maybe that was a little much.

Here’s some things to note:

• I’m having trouble getting all the old pics back up with this site, and some of the albums right now don’t have thumbnails (but the pictures work). Still, I never got rid of the old site so you can still see the gallery.
• You can also view the entire old site, but any posting is disabled, here.

There’s still some tweaking to do but hopefully this site can satisfy those of you who wanted something to read.
